Desktop Applications

A couple of weeks ago, Dave Winer wrote that Radio Userland was much better at doing edit this page functions than Movable Type. It was not really something I wanted, but it did cause a flurry of activity among the MT developers. Today, he is talking about blogging from desktops apps . As I wrote last year, I guess there are simply different mindsets when it comes to blogging. If I were one to post everything from a single computer, a desktop app might work for me. But I like the flexibility of logging in from anywhere. The computer I am writing this on is a brand new workstation that was on a truck this time yesterday. It still is nowhere near being finished getting setup. But as long as I have access to IE, I can write to my heart’s content. I am sure there are benefits to other approaches, but at this point, they aren’t there for me yet. And speaking of browsers, I have been growing increasingly impressed with Mozilla the past few months. But I have no plans to install it on this machine, because of my new fascination with Firebird . It is well worth checking out.
