Librarians v. Google
When I got to my desk this morning, someone had placed an article on it. It was entitled, “Google Slows Work of Librarians,” and was written by Joel Achenbach. If you would like to read it, you can by reading The mind Googles, also by Joel Achenbach. Only start with the paragraph that begins ” The transition to the Google Era” and stop with “Google won.” Or just read In the search game: Google 1, Librarians 0.
Call me an optimist but I think we are all winning. There are just many challenges ahead. But I can’t image a time when there were not.
And if you are interested in more of Joel’s thoughts on Google, which I found ironically enough through a search at that very same engine, read Search for Tomorrow and Google’s Effect on Everyday Life. Also, he is quoted in 9,000 Google hits can’t be wrong – or can they?.
