Norton Woes

When we built a new computer for my mother a few months ago, I made the mistake of installing the 90-day trial copy of Norton Internet Security that came with it. After I couldn’t uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs, I did a “search”:http://www.google.com/search?q=norton+internet+security+uninstall&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official and came up with “Uninstalling Norton Internet Security or Personal Firewall 2003 or earlier using the RnisUPG.exe removal utility(Uninstalling Norton Internet Security or Personal Firewall 2003 or earlier using the RnisUPG.exe removal utility)”:http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2001090510510636. I thought it was taken care of. As it turned out, while http sites were still accessible, anything connecting via https or ftp were not. So back to Google where another “search”:http://www.google.com/search?q=norton+internet+security+https&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official revealed “Norton Internet Security Problems(Norton Internet Security Problems)”:http://www.welchwrite.com/blog/2005/02/norton-internet-security-problems.asp where a “comment”:http://www.welchwrite.com/blog/2005/02/norton-internet-security-problems.asp#c111420166219600099 led me to “Removing your Norton program using SymNRT(Removing your Norton program using SymNRT)”:http://tinyurl.com/de8fv. At one time, I was a big believer in Norton products. Now you can officially color me disenchanted.
